“I attended college on a full ride sports scholarship. After an injury I was given a prescription for pain pills. This slowly but surely took me down a road I was NOT prepared for. By the time I left college, I was a full-blown heroin addict. I could not wake up in the morning; could not brush my daughter's hair; could not function without having heroin inside my body. I cried out: “Lord I beg you to take this addiction from me...” A week later I was found nodded out behind the wheel of my moving car, with my innocent baby in the backseat.
During my very first week at Flossie Lewis Treatment Center in Long Beach, I met NorthEast. They never failed to pick us up and take us to Bible study and Wednesday gatherings! There were moments that I wanted to leave treatment so bad, moments where I wanted to give up, but they gave me faith and changed my entire outlook. Making God the center of my recovery has kept me sober, and this is all because of NorthEast. Even through the pandemic, they are making sure no one is going to fall off track. Every single day they are reaching out through Zoom, prayer messages, and making a difference in so many ways. They helped me get a job last year at Madison Travel, an agency that helps organize their "Jail to Jerusalem" trips to Israel every two years; I've been there ever since. I may not know what the future holds, but I know it has happiness. I want to spread the Word and help people, the way that NorthEast has helped me. I'm proud to say I've been sober for a year and 4 months! That's a life worth living!”
